Short lines, open sources
Treintoerist is a voluntary hobby project, not for profit. There are no ads, no trackers and no accounts. This page explains in plain language what the site does do.
Visitor counter without cookies
The counter in the footer counts unique visitors without cookies and without external analytics. For that, a one-way fingerprint (a salted hash) of your IP address and browser is stored once. Your actual IP address and browser details are never kept and cannot be recovered from that hash.
Like any web server, the server also keeps short-lived technical logs (for security and troubleshooting, for instance against abuse). They are not used for anything else.
Cookies
The site uses exactly one cookie: tt_theme, which remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme. That is a purely functional cookie; nothing is tracked or shared with it. That is also why there is no cookie banner.
Sources
The information on this site comes from open sources:
Stations — station data and journey planning via the NS API.
Activities — locations and opening hours from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL).
Descriptions — short introductions via Wikidata and Wikipedia.
Photos — station and activity photos via Wikimedia Commons, with attribution shown next to the photo.
Spotted something wrong, or is your photo shown and would you rather it was not? Do mail us and we will sort it out.
